Perhaps in the future things will change, after all open rung wheels were once very common in hamster cages but you very rarely see them for sale any more.

We can live in hope that one day the retailers and manufacturers will sit up and take notice of what is harming our pets and then maybe one day we'll be able to trust what is on the market.

I am exceptionally grateful to have found this forum where owners can share their concerns and learn from others. I've learnt more in the short time that I have been a member here than I have done in all the years that I've had hamsters as pets.

Yeah I know its an awful thought isn't it. I looked up hamster leg injury and stuff like that and there were plenty of people on yahoo answers asking for help about legs broken and trapped in cage bars and the occasional wheel but no balls. It makes me wonder whether there is the odd minor ball injury that isn't picked up, like when our hamsters mysteriously go off their balls for an unknown reason... Willow has had patches like that when she would rather not go in her ball and then after a while she forgets about it and wants to again. Maybe its because something has scared them or hurt them a bit.
