Default Pooping and peeing only in nest?

I have a Russian dwarf, Cyril, and he seems to only 'go' in his bed.
I never find any evidence of him going anywhere else, his bedding gets full of poop and very smelly, very quickly. He ends up smelling too.
I change it regularly, but he always seems grumpy when I do. Is there any way I can change his habits? Does anybody else's hammy do it?

You could try putting some of the soiled substrate in a corner of the cage and hopefully he'll use that instead of his bed.
Also, the more you clean out his bedding, the more annoyed he'll get as you're removing his scent. Only remove the soiled bedding and leave some of the old to put in with his fresh stuff, this way he can still smell his scent.

My Chinese does this too & nothing seems to stop her but I've found all my russians much more amenable to toilet training so it's definitely worth a go.
What kind of bed/house does he have?

What type of bedding / substrate do you use ?
I recommend Carefresh, it absorbs pee really well, and my
Long haired syrian , Toby, never smells of pee. I clean out his pee and poo
every 2 or 3 days..
Toby likes to poo in his nest as well, but likes to pee
in a corner.
Like Thin Lizzy said, try getting them to go in another corner.
Hamsters like going in corners...
Put a thick layer of bedding in the corner, with some of his pee-soaked
bedding on top of it, to try and get him to go there instead.
I built Toby a cardboard house and put it in the corner with some of his
soiled bedding in , and he began to do all his peeing, and even some of his
pooping in the house.
But after a couple of months, I removed the house because I built him
some other great toys and he began just peeing in the corner under one of the
new toys.
Just keep removing his soiled bedding and place it in a corner for him, he'll probably
get the idea within a couple of weeks.

I've only had my little girl a couple of days now but I've noticed she pees in her bed too. I've got a potty with litter so I've been doing what's been suggested here where I put the soiled bedding and some poops in the potty to encourage her to go there.

I guess it's just easier for them to go where they are sleeping than have to find the right place, especially in the day when they are supposed to be asleep.
