Question Is a complete cage change stressfull on a ham?

Does changing cages make a hamster feel stressed and nervous? I gave Celest a new cage as she was always escaping her old one via a nice sized hole she chewed in the side, and since then she's only been out for a few minutes at a time, drinking, pouching food, etc. She spends most of her time deep in the large ramp house.

I should add that the bedding is all new, as is the food dish, wooden ramp house, and the hay rack that is now an improvised jungle gym is also new. The only things I moved from her old cage were her plastic igloo house and the water bottle.

Will she be more relaxed after a few days?

I've only done it a couple of times & in both instances kept as much stuff from the old cage as possible including some of the substrate, one ham hardly seemed to notice & the other took about 2 weeks to settle. With almost everything being new I would think your ham will be a bit stressed but if you just let her get used to it she should adjust ok.

She will get used to, some hammies it takes a few days to adjust. Lady Madonna ran in and was all excited and settled straight away but Theodore took a few days to adjust. He now loves his tank though so I wouldn't worry, she'll be back to her old self in no time

I would say she'll be more settled within 10 days to 2 weeks. Meanwhile just let her get used to it. Charlie takes about this long after any major change in his environment and gets quite reclusive. Is the ramp house new? If so she maybe just really likes it and is enjoying nesting for a bit.
