Question New hamster not sleeping

Hello,
I got a new Syrian hamster today. We got home around 2pm and its 20:10 now. I put her in her cage (imac fantasy with 1 extension) Since then she has been acting a little strangely. She has not slept and keeps running on her flying saucer, pausing to go and fill up her pouches and runs for a few more seconds before going to the same corner and emptying them again, and she also has her eyes closed for some of this. Is this something to be worried about?

Hi, others will give far better answers but it sounds like it's just that everything is new and she needs some time to herself to settle in. Is the cage in a noisy area / room?

No I wouldn't worry at all! All hammies react differently to a new home. Theodore went straight to bed for a few hours but Lady Madonna was up and running around like a lunatic for hours and hours!
She's just exploring and getting used to her new home. Tbh, that's a good sign. She's obv quite a confident little hammy!
Congrats on new hammy!
Once she's settled we'd love to see some pics x

Hi,
Her cage is in my bedroom so it's very quiet. I've also noticed she's been making little noises, it sounds like squeaking/Sneezing but I'm not sure which
Hopefully it is just because of the new surroundings

I wouldn't worry at all, many of our hamsters were like this. she's probably just a little stressed with the new environment, give her some time to relax and I'm sure she'll be right in a day or two.

Agreed, it sounds like she's just very excited, Pumpkin was the same when we got her on Wednesday

Millie, congrats on your new hamster and welcome to HC.
Like the others have said, all hamsters are different when they get a new home. It's best that you leave her to settle in for 3 to 4:days. Continue to give her food and water and talk to her softly everytime you're near her cage. This let's her get use to the sound of your voice.
She'll be feeling a bit nervous but that'll pass in time.
Have you decided on a name yet?

Thanks for the replies, she has now slept but she still has her eyes closed sometimes when she runs around and still makes squeaking noises. I'm not sure if that is normal..

She'd just settling in, all hamsters find a new home takes time to adjust to. Her squeaking is perfectly normal. She's young, scared and nervous. Make sure you talk to her at every opportunity, hearing your voice will put her at ease.
