Bar Chewing

I got my first hamster (a dwarf russian Campbell) as a christmas present this year.She´s very calm and obedient except for the bar chewing habit she has. Since she´s my first hamster ever, I´m not sure of what to do to stop it. Any suggestions?

A lot of them do it for attention, try jamming cardboard in the bars that she chews, usually they'll chew the cardboard and tire of it. You could also ignore her when she does it, walk away from the cage and don't look at her. Put on some music or TV, read a book. By ignoring her she'll realise she's not getting your attention. When she stops, praise her. Hamsters hate being ignored.

Bar chewing is less common in dwarfs, it mostly seems to be a bit of a syrian thing so hopefully you'll be able to break the habit!
You could try giving her something like antos dog chews & some bonio puppy dog biscuits to chew on, make sure she has plenty of toys to occupy her & a big enough wheel to run in.
What cage do you have? If her cage is a bit small that might contribute to the problem.
