Putting cardboard is a nice idea! My hammie also gets ** off if he thinks the cardboard layer seems endless! Haha!

He can't see me where I'm sat due to having a wooden cage and it's only the front that has windows which doesn't face out due to my awkward room. Could I do this with the light and turn the light off when he starts to chew and that'll show him I'm not interested?

Yes, switching the lights off is fine as long as you don't speak to him if he starts chewing his cage.
Also, if you can switch the lights off round about the same time every night, then he'll get use to the routine
and adapt quicker.

This might sound like a silly question but does he have plenty of other things to chew on? Those antos chews are very popular. Also the cardboard chew tubes - quite tough cardboard. Our hamster is the opposite - quite solitary and doesn't come out much except when we're asleep or when I get him out for out of cage time. I get him out once a day now at about 8pm (after our dinner and before his evening nap!) for out of cage time and he's getting used to that now - it's better now I have a few out of cage toys. Would that be possible? Sorry if you're doing that anyway. Also I've read that hamsters love labyrinth houses so much that they rarely come out of them, so would it be an option to get one of those? I think they love them because it is like being underground with tunnels and they can have separate areas for nesting and hoards. This one seems popular, although maybe not for a big syrian - there are bigger ones available but they are more expensive - there seem to be plenty of syrian owners using them by the reviews. I just got a big wood guinea pig house and we've hardly seen ours since! So have the opposite problem! Actually, the one I was thinking of might not be good if he is a chewer as it has nails in - the more expensive one doesn't have nails in and is from Germany but postage is quite reasonable (you need google Translate to read it!)

There are 3 sizes on here ranging between about £15 and £22 plus postage. If it's a big syrian you'll need the bigger house. The second one is no good for a syrian but the first one would be ok for a medium or small syrian.

Wow I love the look of those labyrinth houses Pikachu would love one of those!

Pikachu started biting the plastic on her wheel and her platform a few nights ago, My Nan got her some fruit scented chews for Christmas and since I gave her one of those she's being doing it 90% less. Maybe that would work for you? You can home make the fruit scented chews if you have plain wooden ones, there's a tutorial on ErinsAnimals on how to do it

she also loves her crocodile which someone mentioned that brand earlier!

I bought her a new wheel though as it's only the wheel she is still biting the new chew actually stopped her chewing the platform, she has the Trixie so I'm thinking she doesn't like it being enclosed really? I have bought her the Wonderland in hopes that it stops her, but if she bites that then I'll have to remove it in case of splinters when she runs!

This may sound like a waste of time, but if he chews all the time, why not move him into another room? You would get sleep, and he could chew.

Thanks for the suggestion. He does have a lot of things he can chew on and entertain himself with so it isn't like he is getting bored, as well as having his out of cage time. I think he is the kind of hamster who wants to escape from anything as he does it whenever I put him in his play pen. He doesn't like confined spaces but not a lot I can do about that, haha. I am definitely working on a routine with him but it doesn't always work out due to other commitments which is annoying. Hopefully we get into the swing of things soon. It all messed up over Christmas, haha.
One of the Labyrinth houses does look amazing to have. I might have to look into that further and see what I can do. Thank you for suggesting that!
