Squeaky hamster?
So I'm kinda new to the hamster world, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can to make sure my hamster gertrude is as happy as she can be. She's the sweetest thing in the world and I'm in love with her lol. She makes this squeaking sound though and I'm not sure if it's normal or not. She does it at random times, and I know she's not scared or anything. It's literally like a squeaking sound, I'm not sure how else to describe it. Kinda like a squeaky toy. Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Squeaky hamster?
Hi and welcome to the forum, could you tell me more about the noise, does it happen when she is breathing or when she is woken and exploring?

Re: Squeaky hamster?
Some hams are just vocal. Ziggy made almost no sound, then I got Pook. Pook quickly found his voice, and mutters and chuffs, and clicks and makes noises all the time, over various things. Very few of them are annoyance or anger....
I kind of freaked out last night, as I was going to sleep....I heard Pook squeak a couple times. And Ziggy, who has been making more little comments now and again? Squeaked back! Couple of squeaks between them, then it was quite again. I think that was a first, in my earshot anyways. I'm not sure if they were talking about me, or just saying the old "Goodnight Ziggy, Goodnight Pookie, Goodnight Johnboy...."

She does it when she's awake; sometimes when she's running around, and sometimes when I put her in her travel carrier to go to my parents house. For the past month she's been sick with an upper respiratory infection that spread to her eyes and skin, but I took her to the vet and she's still not 100%, but she's doing much better. I know the squeaking isn't from the URI because she'd been squeaking before that.

I have a video of her squeaking, but it's on my phone and it won't let me post on here

Re: Squeaky hamster?
LOL. I love talky hams! There is just something so cute about a vocal ham. Here's a video of Pebbles, my favorite Hamster Central talky hamster. She's gone now, but, boy, could that hammy talk a blue streak! (Click on the photo)
Who wants to hear Pebbles?

Re: Squeaky hamster?
Right now I'm listening to the chorus of squeaks and huffs - I can assure you, it's normal (if not strange). Especially with boys in the house, my girls are squeaking and huffing to try and invite them over.
When she does it, is it when she's happy? Sleeping? Annoyed?
