Question Do hamsters have rapid, heavy breathing when they sleep?

I've noticed that when my hamster sleeps, his little back and stomach move up and down quickly as if he's breathing heavily and fast. Is this normal for hamsters or should I be concerned?

Yes, hamsters breathe more deeply when they're asleep, and some do it more noticeably than others as long as there's no troubling noises, like wheezing, then there shouldn't be a problem.

They seem to dream as well, so don't be surprised if they make sudden movements in their sleep, or get vocal....

Yes they do breathe quick, wee twinkle dreams and she makes noises and it's so sweet!

I had this question a while back too and I understand your concern! Turns out that this is normal. Here is a video of my little Aria and her breathing.

Hopefully all our reassurance puts you at ease.

If your still concerned or not sure you could always post a video up of your hammy.
