Sleeping way more than ususal
He sleeps like 1-2-3 possibly even 4 hours more than he did before, probably because I haven't handled him for like 2-3 weeks because of my cold. It's possible it might end up so that he comes up so late that I don't get any time for him, what to do? When i start handling him again, should I wake him up at his original wake up time, I think he is bored.

Re: Sleeping way more than ususal
Don't be surprised if a hammy suddenly sleeps three days straight, or so it seems. Pook here is on a sleep bender and is just sleeping a whole lot the past several days. I do catch him suddenly running in his wheel at the crack of dawn though, but its not his usual active self.
We watch them and monitor a normal for them, and they then seem to defy normal. It's natural we get concerned. So while I watch more closely, and if theres a no show in 24 hours, I may even intrude for a few minutes to see how he's doing? Bright eyes, eating, sleeping, stretching, ears up, and occaisonal 'mobile'.....seems they're okay usually. They have moods , and days like we do. I never noticed autumn in my life compared to autumn with hammies.....they got me sleeping more as well, lol....
How long has this changed sleep been going on? Does he look OK? How old is he? A week to a hamster is a long time.....like 'remember your twenties?' And often a bored ham is a rowdy ham, biting at the cage, trying to scratch, gnaw its way out, wreaking more havoc than usual in its cage, knocking things over....Worst comes to worst, since Syrians at any rate don't become untame, you can start a hand taming process from the beginning again to re establish the connection....sometimes, I hear, necessary with dwarves....
keep us posted

Re: Sleeping way more than ususal
My robos always got up at 8-9pm and went to sleep 5-6am. Although they do wake up during the day to eat etc. Anyway right now they are waking at about 10-11pm even though nothing has changed. But it might be because they spent more time during the day being awake. That might be the case with your hammy. I'm not saying it is, it's rather a suggestion. After you get better wake up your hammy at the usual play time. I play with my robos at 5pm everyday so around that hour they're running around the cage so i don't even have to wake them up. After a while it basically becomes a routine for them.

Re: Sleeping way more than ususal
Nothing has changed exept for the fact that I havent touched him nor spoken to him for that long of a time, the reason I think he is bored is because even since he came to me he hasnä't had any out of cage time since when I was going to fix up a pen i became sick instead. He used to wake up everyday, no exeptions, at 9:30, today he woke up at 10:30 ish instead. He doesn't seem sick, opnce he is awak he is normal, he just sleeps allot more even tough it gets darker earlier than it did before. Should I turn off my lamp to encourage him to wake up when he doesn't?

Re: Sleeping way more than ususal
Is it getting colder where you are? Both my hams have changed their sleeping schedules a bit since the temperature dropped.
Or maybe since he knows that you're not gonna bother him, he's sleeping in like a grumpy high schooler xD

Turning off the lamp might help, one of mine will not come out ever unless the room is completely dark

I meant 8:30, not 9:30, it's not cold in here, it's always pretty warm, not too warm, but warm.

I have my tv on till like 1-2am during weekends and holidays, 11pm during weekdays and my hamsters are not bothered by it. Well, it doesn't look like they are.

Re: Sleeping way more than ususal
I posted something similar recently. My Syrian was getting me worried because he was sleeping a lot. I'm pretty sure in my case it's because the house is getting cooler and shorter days because now my Robo is doing the same.
