Default Dwarfs chirping

I've often found that my two hybrids, Miso and Pocky, will chirp during the night. It only happens when we're in bed and the lights are off, the chirps are high pitched and I wouldn't say they're very loud in a way that's concerning, but they're loud enough to wake me up. They never seem to repeat the noise though, I only hear it once or twice and it stops. I can't get over to the cage to see what's going on, so I'm very curious to know what's making them chirp. I'm sure they're not in pain as it's more of a thing I hear briefly a couple of times a week, if one was in pain I think I'd know about it. I'm 99% sure it's not fighting either, they live quite contently together and I check regularly for bites etc just to be on the safe side. When I go over after the chirps they are usually just sitting minding their own business, and when they see me they often climb the cage wanting to be out. So I'm wondering whether the chirps are coming from the hamsters when they're playing, but they stop as soon as they hear me, whether one is happy or excited, whether they're chirping to each other, or whether they're trying to get my attention. It's just puzzling as I'd really love to know why they do it. Does anyone else have experience of this and what makes their hamster do it? I'm not really concerned about the chirps as such, just more curious to know what makes them do it, they've also done it for a while now.
