Question Odd chewing...

my hamster isn't much of a chewer and has never chewed anything bad before. He has had the same pot in his cage for about 4 weeks and has never chewed it. It's a clean plant pot tray (plastic) and last night I checked his cage and nothing was eaten, I got home from school and a two cm by half cm piece had been chewed out. Should I be worried or is it just normal chewing? Also should I remove the pot?

P.s he has got a variety of chews.

Yeah its safe, if you see him chewing more I'd take it out for the time being until you can occupy him with something else to chew.

The current chews he has might not be the kind of thing he wants to chew. My ham wont chew wood/plastic/cardboard but loves dog treats and monkey nuts. Try lots of different chews and maybe switch them out for different things each clean to give him a different variety, that should keep him busy

Personally I'd just take it out rather having him chew plastic but I agree with Danni about trying lots of different things for him to chew, mine love dog biscuits & dog chews as well as nuts in shells.

Chewing seems to go in waves for some hamsters. My syrian generally ignores wood chews, but on rare occasions will chew on one particular one all night long. There was one particular barrel-type toy that she completely destroyed over two nights, And she once decimated an apple stick, but otherwise acts as if they aren't there at all xD

Charlie has never decimated anything - I kind of wish he would. Go on Charlie, release the anger! go for it! Yes I would take the plant thing out - it could end up with sharpe edges and plastic can't be good for him really. I think most Hams like a Monkey nut although I believe they shouldn't have them too often. Charlie likes this thing http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rosewood-Bor...ds=carrot+roll I know it's not that cheap at over £4 but it lasts for ages. He started by chewing the bark off and then has a good nibble at the carroty insides now and then, plus he likes standing on it.
