It does end sadly . I really have to add a note about that. It's such a great thread with wonderful examples. Sparkles lives on in teaching new hammy owners the best way to make friends with a new furbaby.

I think you understand hamster-think quite well. I bought my hamster at a flea market and I don't think Humboldt had ever been handled-- and he hated me and bit ferociously when I stuck my hand in the cage. I've been opening the cage and giving him treats when he comes to the door-- he is much friendlier now and I think the next step is a play pen with me.

Boba has now gotten to the point where I can talk to him without him immediately diving in his house, unless I move. He even comes up to the bars as if he's listening... Then wanders off, bored. Meanwhile, Amy does her 'I'm a poor, starving bunny rabbit' impression. It involves big brown eyes, and stretching up with her paws pressed against the bars. She's very good at it.
