I think it's more insidious. His head in the potty protects him from any splash. I mean, his little , okay not so little butt is pointed directly at me. The stubby tail goes up....

Then he crawls backwards out of the potty. Looks at me. And waddles away.....

@ Serendipity....why does a human have a blue potty tray? I've heard of owners becoming like their pets? but this is ridiculous.

Well - it's useful for hiding midnight snacks under the bed.

This is what I think of your paltry double opening potty, human.

Lol. Could you try putting two potties in Skeever? Like one in front of the other so he has to stand and pee in one to get his head in the other one? Kind of. I did a teacher training course some years ago and the hardest bit was classroom management - ie getting the worst behaved kid in the class to do what you wanted them to do. I found that confusing the enemy worked best!

Not that he is your enemy, it's an expression, but you get my drift.

LOL...I do find reverse psychology useful with my beasts....

When they want to go back in their cage? I help them escape into it. We practice platform jumps off my hand over the bed, so if they ever need to jump, they don't land face first and flop over on their backs and have to squiggle to find their feet. Nope. I proactively teach them escape skills

When I'm nearby, Ziggy can use the topmost compartment in his cage to get out. If I'm not there, I lock it.

Takes all the fun out of escaping really. I'm still not sure if that's the reason when Pook escaped he managed to get all the way down from the shelf, across the room, and up onto the bed where he proceeded to wake me. Twice. First time I thought I imagined feeling a hamster walking on my hand. So five minutes later, he tried again. I think he knew it was the best way to get back to his food and nest

If I confused them, I'm afraid it will jolt their normal state of confusion into something lucid and then I'd have a handful.

Hi Kimars, welcome to the forum. I have 4 dwarf hammies and have had a 50/50 success rate with getting them to use a potty. Two of them, inconveniently, insist on using their houses, although Rue will also use her corner potty. My Robo, Aspen, when I transferred her to her new tank, took to using the potty immediately and continues to do so. Bindle has now settled on using one area of her cage, so last week, I bought a potty for her but it is still in the box. I'll be putting it in her cage this week. Fingers crossed that she decides to use it.

I find it easier to be able to lift out a potty and clean that as necessary, than not to have one. Good luck if you go ahead with your Syrian. Let us know how it goes.

I have an Syrian, that is toilet trained. She uses the container with potty litter to pee in, and has an area that she piles her poo, that does not have substrate. I would recommend, if your ham can be trained to go for it! It's SO much easier to keep her cage clean, and saves on changing the substrate, considerably!.

My WW, is now 8 months old, and I don't know why I waited so long to offer her a toilet.. So, far, no luck, with her, though.

I have a Campbell hybred, and so far, she has not taken to the potty tray, although she is only 7 weeks old. I have placed a potty tray in a corner where she burrows, to nest, and so far, she's climbed in and out of it, but has not used it. I've put in substrate with her urine scent, but still no luck. I'll keep trying with her, since she's still very young, and she may learn as she gets a bit older.
