Sleep Squeaking?
I have two Russian Dwarf hamsters, Molotov and Itch. Both female, both just over 6 weeks old. One of them, the smallest, Itch, makes squeaking noises about once or sometimes twice during the day. When I look in, she's completely asleep. I have looked her over, she seems totally healthy, always full of energy, and occasionally I'll wake her up when she does this and she just looks at me in her tired grumpy face as if to say 'what I'm sleeping here'. I just wondered if this is her having hamster nightmares? (If there's such a thing) or whether there's something I'm missing? Thanks

Re: Sleep Squeaking?
I understand where you're coming from, my dwarfs who are the same age as yours do the exact same thing. I always think they're fighting but when I look they're snuggled together and give me the whole "what are you doing with my bed - I was asleep" look . As long as there's no fighting I wouldn't worry about it it's normal

Re: Sleep Squeaking?
I'm sure they're dreaming when they do that, it's quite normal & one of my favourite sounds I have to admit!

Re: Sleep Squeaking?
I agree with Cypher, it's the only time I ever hear a sound from my hamsters but their squeaks are adorable

Re: Sleep Squeaking?
I think Miso was having nightmares because I had to take his wheel away from him for a few days until I got a stand for it... now that the wheel is back in the dream squeaking seems to have stopped...

Re: Sleep Squeaking?
XRubyRoseX - aww bless, well mine have only been here two weeks, so maybe it is something like that, getting used to new and different things.
There was a third hamster in the cage in their shop who was, I was told, older than them and more dominant. She chased Itch about a bit as she was smallest, so maybe nightmares about the bullying?
cypher - yeah, especially when they sometimes don't seem to even know themselves and are just confused about being woken up x)
It might be food related and they're actually squeaks of joy as she knows she can wake up and sit in her own bowl
