Chewing cardboard
The floor of Rosie's cage is metal bars so I put down cardboard under the bedding to keep it from falling through and Rosie getting hurt. The problem is, she digs away all the bedding and chews up the cardboard leaving only bars and I'm worried she'll hurt herself getting her feet stuck between the bars or something! What can I do to prevent the chewing? She has multiple wooden toys in her cage to chew on but she barely touches them. Please help!

Re: Chewing cardboard
Cardboard is great for hammys to chew, but I see your dilemma here. Could you put a piece of wood or maybe coroplast down instead of cardboard, or something else that would be harder to chew up?

Re: Chewing cardboard
Some people use lino, that could be a cheap option as im sure most carpet shops will have off cuts for next to nothing.

Re: Chewing cardboard
Maybe you could use those woven grass mat things, can't remember what the proper name is! I guess they'd get chewed too but might last a bit longer.

Re: Chewing cardboard
Could you remove the bars so she walks on the tray underneath instead?

Re: Chewing cardboard
Before I had bin cages we had a cage with wire floor and I did what Kyrillion suggested. The floor came right off by prying a few pieces of metal at the corners. Then it just sat down in the plastic tray. It made the cage much easier to clean, as well.
