Default hamster butting air holes

I have a big hamster cage with two floors the first floor is barred and the second is plastic with lots of air holes. Recently my hamster has been biting the holes above his bed. Not only is this bad for the hamster but it is bad for me because it literally sounds like nails on a blackboard and it is stopping me from sleeping. I want to get my hamster out of this habit before it's too late. Not sure if this part is needed but my hamster is Syrian male and is about 5 months old. Thanks in advance for any help.

Could you take that floor out if its being such a problem? That might be a good place to start trying to resolve this

Since he's not going for the all popular bars, I'm guessing his hammy senses tell him the best escape route is through the plastic roof

When I see hams start a gnawing habit, I try everything to break it ASAP, but I noticed that it's different when they just mindlessly gnaw on a part of the cage, and when they find things they move or loosen or break when they gnaw it. If I put Ziggy in a tiny cage to clean his luxury condo, he clearly chews to get the door open...not just mindless chewing. Since he manages to get the door open partially....

I'd prevent the ham from getting near that place then...removing or lowering the second level, or just making it impossible to get at the top part....

Since Both of your questions have the same answer I won't quote you. The seccond floor is bed floor and it has a little plastix domb built into it. If I took of the lid I would have to seal up the hole where his tube would go, and I am not sure what I would use. Also with his beed being on the top floor I am not sure he would like me to move his bed to the place he plays.

Hamsters often move their own nest areas over time, and I'd rather he be inconvenienced by that than get into a chewing habit.

Without a picture, it's hard to tell what exactly he is chewing on, and how to fix it up so that is not an option. Can you post a couple of pics of his cage, or that area?

What cage is it? Cages with holes in places are sometimes a bit impractical for hams I'm afraid
