Default Have a bar chewing problem with my new Syrian!

Hello everyone!
So today was one of the best days in my life because I got my new Syrian today! His name is Zeus BUT eventhough his cage is the right size he started climbing on the bars like crazy and chewed on them. I'm kinda worried that he wont stop with it And I cant do anything because I'm not allowed to touch him yet...
please help! Thanks!

If his cage is new and you still have the receipt, you may need to exchange it for a tank, (Zoozone?), or make a bin if he doesn't stop. He can break or chip his teeth and that can lead to lifelong vet visits. If he wants your attention, I don't see any reason why you can't let him check you out. Do you have a picture of his setup? Congrats on getting him!

He could just be a little bit stressed from moving to new surroundings. Does he have enough wood/cardboard chews and a good wheel (at least 8 inches)? Maybe invest in some hanging toys so he may start to climb instead of bar chewing as well

I dont rly know how to put pictures into these texts because I am new to this forum But I'll try to figure it out! And thanks for anwsering so fast (Oh and I am not able to exchange the cage because I did not get it from a shop but of old friend of mine who was selling it. The cage is old but in great condition. And we also had to put a (I dont know how to say it lol! I'm not rly good at english ) 'net' on top of the bars so the hamster coulnd escape because the bars werent rly close to each other. (I'm bad at explaining ) I'll send pics when I know how to do it!

The net, if a hard metal that would need pliers to cut it, is referred to as wire mesh.

Leave him to himself for a few days to get used to his new surroundings. If the cage is the right size, it might be a habit he developed because his previous home wasn't large enough. If it doesn't stop once he settles in then you could try providing lots of enrichment and toys in the cage, aswell as taking him out often so he can use up his energy on playing rather than on biting the bars.
