Default Please help why is my hammy doing this?

Hey everyone!

Gimli is a very shy hammy and we can barely get her out coz she doesn't seem to like it and she runs away from our hands.

I got home and saw her start to scratch the plastic bit floor of her cage, on the left where here house is she was doing it on the plastic floor (picture below). She was scratching with all 4 feet while kicking stray bits of saw dust around and moving around on the floor.

She's never done this before and she was doing it for about 2 minutes, afterwards she went and drank loads of water and now she's in her house.

What does this mean? I'm worried!

Thanks in advance (:

Didn't you mention she might be pregnant? She might be nesting, but I'm not 100% sure. When were the two separated?

She's sounds like she's just digging and marking. Ted E. does that in the corner of his tank.

Sounds like she's just having a bit of a dig around. Dwarfies love digging, if she does this alot maybe give her a deeper layer of shavings so she can have a proper dig.

My Todd's a proper little burrower, I swear he's part mole! I give him a layer of shavings about 7 -8 inches deep with some Carefresh sprinkled on top. He loves making little tunnels and then sleeping in them under the shavings. I never know where he is! lol

I did think she was pregnant yes but after 22 days there was no pups so that's not it, I did think so at first but it's been too long now!

She does like to have a dig I notice her doing it a lot so you're probably all right with that! Haha I'll take the advice on making the shavings deeper that way she can have lots of fun!

Thanks again (:

Don't worry. Mine do the same thing! One of mine actually "swims."
