Female hamsters more alert?
HI, first time posting
Have a question, Are female hammies (syrian) more alert? i have had my girl bella a month this friday and any noise near her cage she shoots out of her bed to investigate. She is 3 months old and i got her from the pet shop she was very overweight and very nervous. She still is abit nervous but has calmed down alot. Only reason am asking is i have always had male hamsters, Last wee girl i had was a few years ago and have forgot how they act lol , Casper (male) my other hamster just stays in his bed all day except for the morning when i give him his treat.
Sorry for the long question lol

Re: Female hamsters more alert?
It does depend on their character but generally females are thought to be more active. Males can be a bit more laid back.
It could be that your hammy is in a new environment and is sensitive to anything happening outside her cage. Once she calms down that might change. Or it could be that she's naturally more curious

Re: Female hamsters more alert?
I have found that with all my rodents. Individual differences aside, girls do seem to be more alert than the boys

Re: Female hamsters more alert?
A female on heat is definitely more alert in my experience, especially when trying to call out to a male!
I also find females more alert, my males seem pretty laid back and a lot quieter
I had males and a female on heat in the same room and she always called to them and was very hyper, sometimes the males reacted back! But this has not happened since with another female.

Re: Female hamsters more alert?
My female syrian is definitely more alert than my male. She gets out of bed numerous times a day to see what's going on - I think she is scared she misses anything! My male just gets up for a pee, a drink and some food and goes back to bed

Re: Female hamsters more alert?
Yes I think so. My boy sleeps all day, jus gets up for a drink and a snack and that's it. My girls used to monkey bar and he doesn't. he is the laziest thing but very gentle and sweet.
