Thumbs down The chewing returns

Hey guys.
Some of you probably remember I posted recently about my Pumpkin bar chewing.
Well I bought her a brand new cage (she needed some more room anyway) and stopped for a few days but oh she has started again.
I have just bought her a brand new cage so I shall NOT be getting a tank or bin cage or any other type of housing. It is brand new, not even a week old.
I've tried putting cardboard on the bars, she chews through, I've tried rubbing treats on her toys, she chews them but then eventually goes back to the bars. I've tried gently blowing on her but she just carries on. I've trying rubbing olive oil in the bars, doesn't have an effect. My most useful tactic I'm using at the moment is I get old, clean socks from my draw and wrap them around the certain bars she is chewing. She still chews but it isn't as noisy and not as bad for her teeth if she's chewing fabric but I'm gonna run out of socks soon.

She is 8/9 weeks old. Is she going to grow out of it? If she will, when?

How can I stop her?

I'm really getting concerned as she cut her nose yesterday and I think it at hav something to do with bar chewing.

Do not let her chew socks, if she swallows bits she could get a blockage and that is a BIG problem.
I know many people here will say do this.. do that to stop the bar chewing. I can honestly tell you this, nothing stops them chewing.

I moved willow from a bar cage to a tank. She then stopped bar chewing of course BUT I had to make sure she was no where near the mesh lid or she would chew that.

She also then decided to chew the silicone from every corner as far up as she could reach and all along the bottom.

No matter what I give her she will not stop doing it.

I moved her into a big vivarium recently as it has more floor space but she tries to chew the runners. Stopped that with some bendy bridges and glue but just this second at 4am I had to move her back into her aquarium as she was trying to chew th glass doors. :O

I hate her right now :\ well I dont but it can be so stressfull.

I hope you manage to stop yours chewing but willow is 13 months old and not found anything that will stop her yet xx

I love my baby, she was my first hamster but honestly will never have a syrian ever again due to the chewing

Oh poor you... I read your previous post and I really feel for you. It's so frustrating when they are spoilt rotten and yet they still want to chew the bars.
Have you tried the fixing a wooden toy to the area that she favours? Any things worth a go at this stage I would imagine.
Has she got a stuffed log in her cage? They're from the naturals range and honestly they keep my Syrians entertained for ages. I always find anything that involves food holds their attention for a lot longer than just a plain old wooden toy... And it's quite hard for them to get the stuffed bit out so it last for ages..
I know you've exhausted all other methods so I'm struggling to think if some thing else to suggest.... I'm sorry! If I think of anything I'll let you know.

What about getting a couple of those long trixie wooden bridges and fix them all the way around the bars if the cage. Or getting some plastic sheets of some kind. Mans doing the same. Just covering the bit that she can reach... At least with a sheet of plastic she won't be able to chew it.. I have never done either of these before so I wouldn't know if they will work or what plastic to use. But it's a suggestion worth trying!!

The plexiglass over the bars is a great idea and inventive, but it`s basically turning a barred cage into a plastic one! Definitely worth doing around the four walls of a barred cage, not so much the roof unless the hamster can reach the roof bars.

I was vey lucky that my male Syrian never was a bar chewer, but he was quite introverted anyway and not so much an attention seeker, so I guess it depends on the Syrians character too.

Zoozone or similar tank style cage = no or reduced chewing.
Barred cage with a bar chewing hamster = bar chewing!

But the plexiglass sounds worth trying. It`s not cheap though. Some websites might be cheaper for different thicknesses and lengths.
