Hi JessyWolf. Hamsters sleep quite a lot. Although people think they sleep all day and are up all night, this is not necessarily true. Hamsters tend to be up and about around early evening and on and off throughout the night. Some (Like my Ted E. Bear) are day hammies and are up in the early morning from 4-5 a.m. until about 11 a.m., then again in the early evening. There are no hard and fast rules for hammies
. But I have noticed that they seem to sleep a bit more in the colder weather. Give it a bit more time and you'll figure out his schedule. By the way, if you want to wake him to play, that's fine. What I do with Patches is (accidently, of course) bump around by her cage until she comes out to see what's going on. She comes out of her cage for a visit and will go right back to sleep when I put her back. They're pretty adaptable little furries.
