Running too much on wheel?
My two new Syrians are new to wheels and they've taken to them like fish to water! I'm worried about how much Peach runs though. Timmy takes breaks but Peach runs constantly. I don't know how she does it! She runs all night from the time she wakes up in the evening straight through until late in the morning. I know because I've been up with her. Last night I noticed that she had stopped running and she was lying flat out with her eyes half open, draped off the side of her flying saucer. I thought she'd had a heart attack! Turned out she was fine, she'd just exhausted herself. I gave her an extra treat last night (plain cous cous, yogurt, veg) which she devoured and then she was right back up and running again! I weighed her this morning and she's back up to 195g but I'm concerned that she's running too much

Re: Running too much on wheel?
Just make sure she's eating and drinking She probably just has loads of energy and the wheel is the only way to channel it. I'm curious to see what the pros say though

Re: Running too much on wheel?
If she actually ran herself to exhaustion I'd consider limiting her time with the wheel, some hams can end up doing themselves harm by running too much when they're new to wheels so its probably better safe than sorry.

Re: Running too much on wheel?
Alright, I will take it out now and give it back to her for a set time this evening, maybe an hour or two would do. Thanks!

Re: Running too much on wheel?
You could also give it to her every other day or every few days instead. Like Kyril said, they can get addicted. Tyrion was like it for a while but he chills out a bit now x

Re: Running too much on wheel?
I did take it out a couple of days in a row and only give it to her for short periods and since then she seems to have realized that there are other things in her universe now and doesn't run herself silly x

Re: Running too much on wheel?
Had the same problem and I had to limit wheel time. She'd only get every few days, because it had gotten to the point where my hammy had lost a lot of weight. It seemed that no matter how much she ate, she would just get skinnier. She calmed down now, it actually got to a point when she wasn't using it anymore and had gained weight she knows no moderation!
All to say I do second everyone that says you should limit wheel time
