Unhappy Dwarf Hammy Fights.

Of course, the two ww's I brought home a week ago are just now starting to fight. It's really heart breaking, as I've tried my best at keeping them happy They have two of everything in a bigger cage now, but occasionally they wake me up squeaking. The aggressor is the youngest one, Bolt, and I've been keeping an eye on her for awhile. I don't particularly like her (she's my brothers). She also bites a lot and isn't very tame. I love Lilo and I hate seeing her fight Ive told my brother to either buy a cage or take Bolt back to the pet store. My parents think I just want my brothers hamster gone and its really frustrating. But, I'm doing the right thing, right? Ugh...

Unfortunately hammy pairs don't always work so yes, your brother needs to get his own cage for Bolt and they need to be separated, sooner rather than later in order to avoid any serious injury to Lilo since she seems to be the one that's being bullied
Try and explain to your parents that Bolt's behaviour could lead to a serious injury or death and that the fact you insist on getting a cage for Bolt too is for the benefit of both hammies and that way your brother can keep his hammy too and won't need to return it.
Good luck! xx

Thanks I just noticed that they also seemed to be grooming each other. One would sort of "bite" the others back and the other would sit there. I read somewhere that grooming is a sign of affection? Weird. I still think seperating them would be for the best though, like you said

Hi. It`s always better to have two cages when you keep a pair of dwarf hamsters because they are known for falling out a lot and keeping another tank or cage handy is really important in case they need splitting up quickly. This just means you have one and your brother has one. They can still be kept in the same room or separate rooms, but once they are separated, they must never meet again as this would only cause them stress and stress leads to illness in small animals.

It`s also important that parents are aware of this too because if they are probably responsible for buying the extra cage.

Actually I bought all of my hamster equipment myself and I agreed to get a job to keep it up, but now that I need a new cage my brothers going to have to pay for it. That's another reason my parents don want to seperate them...
