Re: Hamster aggression? :(
One of my Syrians Teddy runs so fast on his 12inch slient spinner and his cage rattles, but it's a better sound than Daisy chewing her water bottle which I can't get her to stop. My two syrain girls Daisy and Rosie don't really play in there wheels.
They all have play time in there balls every evening too. They love it, I leave them in it until they have had enough.

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
how is stan doing has he calmed down any ? My hamsters have flying saucers and they are quite even when the Syrians are using theirs, maybe could you change his wheel as there might be some thing up with the one he has, then you could leave it in his cage, did you manage to check him over to see if there was some thing causing him pain that might change his behaviour.

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
To be honest.. When the wheel spins it isn't straight. Like... It looks like it is bent or it rocks side to side slightly. So maybe it is a faulty wheel. But those things aren't cheap and it is annoying that I would have to buy a new one.
I haven't been able to check him. The times I have tried to get him out since, he isn't interested. It seems like he is avoiding me for some reason now. But last night he was trying desperately to get out of the cage... What he used to do in his older smaller one... But climbing up the sides... But of course failing. I had to sleep as I had an early shift so i couldn't get him out. If it isn't his wheel making a sound.. Its his constant claws on the sides of him trying to get out.
I am thinking of making a big cage. One i can put him in at night when I sleep and take him out of the room. Which means I will need to get another wheel anyway... But the 12 inch flying saucer is a bit big for a bin cage. I usually sleep about 4-5am anyway... But these past few days i have has early shifts so needed sleep. Any suggestions on the wheel or the size of the bin cage? I want it big enough for him bit small enough for transportation ^^.
Thank you

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
I think it isn't a good idea to make a bin cage and place him back and forth between the cages this will stress and upset him more, and all of that can lead to stress related illness and in bad cases death. Also it is at night that Syrians are more active and need to have play time, It would be an idea to make the bin cage and move him to some where else in the house if he is bothering you at night as long as it is a bin cage 80cm by 50cm which is recommended for a Syrian. or you could an get away with 60cm by 30cm bin cages one on top of the other with tubes so he climb up and down.

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
The best solution would be to have his cage in another room like a living room, dining room or another bedroom (but not a hallway as it`s freezing in winter). I didn`t have the space in my room when I took on my Syrian from my nephew, so my mother and I decided the best thing to do would be to let him live in the main living room as it`s just the two of us in the house and it`s quiet, so Boris loved that and it meant I didn`t hear him during the night! Although ideally, I like to have my hamsters in my room and always do when I have a dwarf hamster. But I only usually keep one anyway so it`s not a big issue for me.

Yea having him in another room isn't possible. My mum and dad don't really want him put anywhere else... Plus there is no space really. I might just have to get used to the sound Honestly ^^

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
Looking back on your threads, Am I right in thinking that you have only had stan from the end of last month to the beginning of this month. If that is the case, his aggression could be stress as he has been moved home in that short space of time from out of a mini duna to a zoozone. It is still very early days with him and it is a case of moving back a few steps, to sitting talking to him instead of you picking him up, which I understand you wont do as you are scared of him now, so I would start with sitting next to him talking to him, then give him treats get him use to you. I wouldn't give him any more cages and taking the wheel in and out is scaring him more. get him a quite wheel and time with out any more changes.

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
If all else fails, there are always ear plugs. I went through a phase when my precious Cheeto was insistent on dragging all of her food into her wheel every night. And then she would run in it. It woke me up every night, multiple times a night, for a long time. No matter what I did, she wouldn't break the habit. So I did start sleeping with ear plugs for a few weeks. Finally she stopped!

Re: Hamster aggression? :(
Hey guys, I have put his cage on the floor tonight, maybe that might help the rattling of his wheel. He was actually on my sisters bed, as she moved out recently, so maybe the hard floor will make the Saucer spin more steady? His cage is also further from my bed so it might help ^^.
I will also leave him a couple of days, maybe giving food from my hand every now and then...so he can get used to things ^^.
Thank you so much everyone for your help
