Default Jumping syrian?

Hey guys! As you all know, I just adopted my little Necco. I love him to bits, and I hold him as often as he feels comfortable to get him used to me. Lately he has developed a problem. He lays down on my lap, and then takes a flying leap whenever I least expect it. I'm really worried I'm going to lose him! I have tried bathtub training, but that doesnt help. how do I stop this? with him being my first syrian I want to make sure I do everything right.

Congratulations on the new addition. If Necco is a young hamster this could explain the flying leap "jumping" as they can be a little jumpy when young

he's almost six months old... so I dont think it's that. He loves to snuggle, and crawls right into my hand when I place it in his bin cage. He's always really alert, and is never shy.
