I did everything wrong
and it worked!
I have a little fancy black Syrian hammie… HE IS SO CUTE! Well I did everything wrong when it came to my hammie. I kind of decided to get him from one day to the next. I’ve had cats, dogs and turtles… but never a hammie. Well I ended up learning along the way the dos and don’ts of having a hammie as a family member! I didn’t leave him in his cage the first day (I read that this is a must when bringing a new hammie home). I let him run around in his ball most of the day. I never actually hung out with him in a bath tub (I read that’s good for bonding with your hammie) … well last night, I put him on my bed and he snuggled up next to my leg and was trying to pull my pajamas over him… so I covered him with my long shirt and a corner of my blanket and he laid down and went to sleep! It was sooooooooooooo cute!!!! My hammie has seriously become part of my family so quickly, he is so much fun. I felt so accomplished that he fell asleep with me! My mom had to take the time to remind me how I was afraid to hold him at first…. Lol it was such an awesome moment!!

Re: I did everything wrong
That's going to be one very social little ham. I think you have one great relationship ahead of you. One note of caution though. It can be tempting to snuggle down with hammy and fall asleep yourself. Then hammy runs the risk of being rolled over on or wandering and falling off the bed. So, eyes wide and no napping when hammy decides to snooze next to you. That happened to me years ago with a gerbil. He was fine, but I realized what could have happened and have been careful ever since. You really are very lucky that this little one trusts you this much.

Oh thanks for the advice! I don't sleep when he is out of his cage... My room is big and I don't want to lose him in there! lol So I keep my eyes wide open when he isn't in his cage.
But it was so cute! I wish I had taken pictures but my phone was on the charger and I didn't want to wake him. lol
I had put him on a towel on my bed the day before and I had covered him with the towel just a little bit... he looked at me and then plopped himself down on the bed... he is such a little human! the way he knows okay its time to lay down... lol he is SO cute!

Re: I did everything wrong
Pictures are now required!! . He sounds adorable. You're going to have to keep the phone within arms reach with this little. I just have that feeling that he's going to give you lots of great photo ops.

Re: I did everything wrong
I let them run around the house but to stop them escaping I have to crawl around after them with my hand poised above ready to catch them XD
