Default Hamster Not Acting Normal

Hi, so my hamster, Ryder, isn't acting like her normal self. She's normal hyper and full of energy at night. I went out for a walk with my friends for four hours, and when I came back my Mom told me that Ryder was scratching at her cage and biting it. But when I took her out - she stayed absolutely still.

I put a rag in the microwave for 15 seconds and wrapped her in it - she loved it! I think... she didn't move but looked so cute in it. My mom felt she was a little cold, and I just kept her in it for about five minutes after she made her way into my shirt and hid there looking up at me. She likes to sleep in my chest on my breasts.... a lot.

I cleaned out my cage while my mom had her, opened the window and let the cold night air in too see if there was an odd smell or something, then put a small portable electric heater on high for 20 minutes to get it back up to room temperature.

Is it just because she missed me for four hours? Is she coming down with something?

Now she's curled up sleeping behind her wheel near her toilet like she sometimes does when she doesn't want to use her regular bed.

Default Re: Hamster Not Acting Normal

It sounds as if she was in season last night. They try their best to get out the cage to find a mate and are often more active on their 'in heat' day. When you stroke their back they stand quite still, looking glazed with their tail up in the air. Did she do that?
It's quite normal and she may do it every 4 days or so.
They can get a little warm in this weather but it isn't too hot so I wouldn't try and adjust the room temp too much. The sleeping in the open is usually a sign they feel warm. Heat is more dangerous to hamsters than cold actually so don't over warm her. Temperatures between 12- 23C are quite acceptable for hams as long as they are not in bright sunlight or a draught. To cool put a plate in the fridge and then lay in in her cage so she can choose to lie on it or not. She will know if she is too warm
