Re: Male vs Female
I am interested to hear the answer! I keep hearing that Males are friendlier than females... but I have heard a lot of wrong information.

Re: Male vs Female
I have a girl dwarf and a boy syrian (both my hamsters are very friendly). I think it really depends on the hamster too..and the amount of time spent on taming the hamster as well. You might also think about they species of hamster that you choose too! One thing to think about with girls is the possibility she could end up with reproductive problems (tumors, cysts, pyometra, etc.). I don't know if there are many male specific issues.

Yes, I heard about the female problems, and I have so far only heard that the females are moodier when they are in heat, and smell very bad then. My female dwarfs do not smell while in heat, though. I have heard that the only male syrian problem is their VERY obious testicles, but I have also heard that it just depends on the hamster, so i am still a bit confused.

Re: Male vs Female
I've had both, and my male was definitely more cuddly, and my girl is more active. But it does come down to the individual hamster, and it depends on what you want.
I've had my girl almost a year, and I'm sure she's gone into heat during that time, and I haven't noticed at all. But my boys testicles, I definitely did notice. I even came on here because I thought he was sick or something; No, it was normal.

With my Dwarfs, I have 2 females and 2 males, and the males are definatly a lot calmer and mellower than the jumpy and active females. I am just wondering what gender syrian would be the best for playing with and holding a lot.

Re: Male vs Female
I have a male syrian and i'll stick with males. everyone says they are friendlier, they don't smell horrible like females in heat, and pyometra (a serious disease) is only in females. I love my boy Panda, he's so sweet!

Re: Male vs Female
I've had both and I couldn't ever choose them by sex. Every ham has his or her own personality and every one of them has made it's own special place in my heart. I've loved 'em all

Re: Male vs Female
Ive got a male syrian and a male robo and had 4 male syrians previously. Ive no experience of females, the reason being females and pyometra scare me! So i can only comment on males. I have never been bitten once and all have been really friendly, calm and docile.

Re: Male vs Female
I have both and I really don't notice a difference. They both have mellow and hyper times, both have bitten, they seem to live the same amount of time on average, and I've had health issues with both. I really don't prefer one over the other.
