Re: Hamster in heating vent
Diameter is straight across the middle - like you were drawing a line to cut it in half - the length of that line is the diameter If you measured all round that is the circumference

Re: Hamster in heating vent
My husband is going to build him one of those bin cages when he gets back into town on Sunday. I put him into my 35 gallon aquarium until then since he can't climb the glass. I'm gonna go to the pet store this afternoon and get him a free standing wheel that doesn't need to attach so he will still have that.

Re: Hamster in heating vent
I love this little guy but man is it frustrating. I work at home so he spends most of the day curled up on my shoulder and he watches tv with us at night from his playpen but he does not like his cages I guess.
He is my first Syrian. I've had Russian dwarfs for bout 10 years and and they have never escaped. But he has also never even test nibbled and even if I wake him up he is never nippy. He's an amazing hamster maybe part of that is being smart enough to get out of anything lol.

Re: Hamster in heating vent
Try and get a smooth surface one won't you because they can hurt their feet on ones with rungs or mesh. At least you saved yourself 200 dollars for the man to come out and dismantle the vents!!

Re: Hamster in heating vent
Aww I was going to suggest lowering a little nest down that you can pull up once he is in, I was so proud of that idea!!!!

Re: Hamster in heating vent
That sounds like a good idea!
I will remember it if he gets out again.

Re: Hamster in heating vent
Another trick is to lower one of the crittertrail tubes down an opening. All my hams can't resist climbing into a tube. I have loads of them. Glad you got your hammy back. The tank he's in right now has a cover right? I've had a Syrian climb stuff in his tank, push up a cover that wasn't clamped and escape. They really are the houdini's of the animal world. Rodent's are smart.

Re: Hamster in heating vent
Well it didn't because I didn't think he would be able to climb glass and it is deep enough that he only goes about halfway up even standing on toys.
I looked around a bit and I will be building him this one Storage bin cages tomorrow. It looks easy enough for even me to do lol.

Re: Hamster in heating vent
I like the instructions on this one! It does look really easy. Your hammy should be safe in there for sure. And you'll have peace of mind.
