Felix is the same when i first got him he was very active and all over cage. Now he just sleeps all the time and if i do catch him up he just runs back to his bed.

Not sure if this is the case with your hammy, but mine gets more lazy as the temperature become lower. They like to bury themselves in huge piles of bedding and sleep a lot more lately.

My Syrian and my Dwarf are the laziest hamsters. My Syrian started out super active. But not so much now. And my dwarf - well let's just say I check with fear in my heart EVERY day - having to disturb him slightly as he has a LOT of substrate and he burrows down in it deeply instead of uses a house so I never know where I am going to find him.

Only my robos are very active.

I thought felix just didnt like me as he does everything to avoid me. He stays in bed until i go to my bed and if i get back up again and find him up he runs back to bed.

I have two Syrians with very different behaviour; Bubble is bouncy & awake & wanting to know what is going on in the early evening & morning as well as at night & always pops his nose out if I open the cage door. Teddy is so chilled out & just the opposite, he sleeps more when we're up & I think is more active through the night. He is interested in us but not as nosy or excited about us as Bubble is. I think they all have their own little personalities. Your hamster is maybe just a more laid back sort of hamster . As long as he is eating & drinking & being active at some time or other then I'm sure that's just his character.

It's always worth keeping an eye out for major behaviour changes though as they can sometimes point to things not being quite right or a medical problem which might need checking out by a vet. I also weigh my hamsters regularly as significant weight change can be a sign of problems developing.

Males generally tend to be lazier than females, so the gender will likely play a part in it. It's also winter and I've noticed my hams sleep a lot longer in the winter months than the summer months. A lot of hams have varied sleeping patterns. Some sleep for ages, others not much. Minnie used to be up at 5pm, whereas my two current boys don't wake up before 10.30pm at the moment. Axel will sleep until I go to bed unless I try and encourage him to come out for some exercise.

My Finley has been sleeping loads too... but only the last couple days! I had to get him up to get into his cage to clean out all of his dirty bedding. He went into the bin cage I have made so he was secure and all he did was go straight to sleep in there! Since he has been in the cage after me sorting it out, he has just been taking everything into his house that he sleeps in and making a nest. Our heating broke down Monday so had no heating monday night so it was colder than normal but i wrapped around blankets near where his bed is to help him stay warm and gave him extra bedding. Could he be in hibernation mode? He is just storing LOADS of food in his bed... but hes coming out to go for a wee?! He is confusing me!

My Luna is getting old now (nearly 2 yrs) and all she wants to do is sleep. I am concerned as she seems to be quite cold when I touch her. Some nights I take get her out of bed and wherever I put her she just snuggles up and goes to sleep again. I made her a shoebox with cosy bedding and I usually put her in there about once a week and she just sleeps beside me. Am I better just leaving her? Does she have a problem? Should I take her to the vet?
