Hamster and Mice living together
I've been thinking about getting a couple of mice, and I was wondering if they could live with my hamster, Gowler. Gowler is a 7 month old male(?). The cage is a large aquarium.

Re: Hamster and Mice living together
No.
There're loads of problems with that. For a start, hamsters have different dietary needs to mice so they'd end up ill from unbalanced diet. Secondly it looks from your avatar like Gowler is a syrian. Syrian hamsters must be solitary. If our syrian Scamp even sees another rodent she wants to kill it - we've seen her preparing to do so. Even the more social species can't happily and safely live with another completely different animal - they can't even live with other species of hamster, forget mice or other rodents. If you try this you risk the lives of the mice and Gowler. Not a good idea. |
Re: Hamster and Mice living together
As already said, its certainly not wise to put different rodents together.
Syrians are solitary, whereas mice are very sociable :) Female mice get on easily in pairs or groups, males usually enjoy company but can be more terratorial and need more careful attention to ensure they live happily together x |
Re: Hamster and Mice living together
simply put, if you want mice, buy another cage for them.

Re: Hamster and Mice living together
i wouldn't recommend putting any hamster with mice!
i have 4 female fancy mice and they make absolutely lovely pets, very friendly, even my 2 year old holds them without any problems ( under supervision) enjoy your mice xx |
Re: Hamster and Mice living together
NEVER put mice or any rodent in together who are nt the same species. What made you think mice and hamsters could co-habit anyway? Anyone who even contemplates such a move are crossing into cruelty.

Re: Hamster and Mice living together
No no no no no no no... 1) Syrians are solitary anyway, and 2) they are completely different species with different needs that I doubt would even tolerate each others' presence.

Re: Hamster and Mice living together
dont under any circumstances put mice in with hamsters, that would be like putting a cat in with a bird, very cruel indeed
