Default Sand bath

So I decided to give Belle some sand as she LOVES digging! The first time I put in a corner of her cage but now finally have a box for it inside the cage. She used to dig in it but now she uses it as a toilet ... Just wanted to check that this is normal?

Yeah, when I was first looking into sand baths and potty training at the same time, I found out from the other members that it's not uncommon for sand to be used as a potty litter, and that sometimes hamsters will just go potty in their sand boxes. I have little sand dishes in each of hamster's bins and most of them like to roll in the sand, AND potty in it... LOL kinda defeats the purpose, right? :P

I have 4 Roborovski hamsters, and two Campbells Russian. Three of the Robos LOVE to roll in their sand, as does one of the Campbells. The others ignore it totally. I suppose its a matter of personal taste! I use chinchilla bathing sand, rather than the dust. I understand chinchilla dust is not good for their breathing.
