Default Hamster noises...

I've noticed quite a lot lately that when I get Ruby out for her playtime she makes a sort of clicking noise...I was told it could mean that a hamster nervous, although she definately does'nt seem nervous to me. Anyone know what that is all about?

Out of all my hamsters, Ruby has been the most vocal...and troublemaking

There are various kinds of noises a hamster can make--only some of them indicating distress (such as screeching and chattering teeth--the latter means being afraid and warning; it's not like crunching on food). Often you can hear chirping or whistling sounds, depending on hamster (my robos whistle, my winter white hybrid chirps quietly). It usually indicates excitement. Is our clicking noise sort of chirpy? It's the sound my WW makes when she's interacting with me and I talk to her. Of course if there's a wheezing whistling sound, it could also mean respiratory problems.

Here's a thread you might find useful:
What noises do hamsters make? (syrians)

Gloria was such a clicker! It certainly was not in any way related to stress/anger/fear! She was a Syrian and she only clicked when she was very happy, like when snuggling or when eating her favorite treats. She could click so loud it was like a cat's purr, and when we clicked our teeth she would click back as if having a conversation about how happy she was

She was an extremely vocal hamster and we communicated with her by mimicking her noises for happy or mad to communicate yes and no. It worked very effectively

I miss my little clicker <3

I find two types of clicking noises with Syrians. When I have rudely woken them or surprised them with my hand in their home, you get an angry clicking, which sounds quite harsh, and is a "Go away, NOW". You can often also see some teeth with this type of click, the full on defensive approach!

The gentler, softer clicking is the happy, content sound .

Fur-nando chirrups and chirps very quietly during playtime, which is his excited noise. It's really quiet, but I can hear it clearly when he is scampering around my head and shoulders!

Evie has a chirruping noise which totally confused me when I first heard it, I thought she was sneezing. But now I realise she only does that when she's exploring and found something, or excited. Hamchan does a clicking thing when he's slightly irritated.

I find all of my hamsters make similar noises but for completely different reasons! XD
Thistle sounds EXACTLY like a dogs squeek toy if you make her jump and she makes a quiet clicking noise when she is excited. She also makes a 'Buzz' sound if you put Pippy into her line of site or smell - thats her excited yet scared noise. If she gets as sudden fright she crackles.
Pippy will crackle when she is scared or cross but she never squeeks and if she 'Buzzes' it means shes bored
Truffle and Cookie both chirp like budgies when they are startled or hurt and click when they are nervous but never crackle.
Trevor, Kiku and Jení make no sounds whatsoever :L

I think the hams all.speak a different dialect in captivity since they're isolated from other hams and have evolved their vocal language differently the only way to truly know what your ham is trying to communicate to you is to pay attention to them they have a way of making their feelings known!

Luna chirps - the other day I went to see her (during the day) and she poked her head out of her nest so I gave her a mealworm, walked to the other side of the room to get something and turned around the find her staring at me and chirping lol. Was very cute.

My little Cyril made this noise this morning and I assumed it was because he was cold, so I left a little extra bedding outside his house for him, I didn't know it was because he was afraid

Or it could be he was just a bit grumpy, like we all are when we're tired and want to go to bed!
