Do hamsters like to be petted?
Well my syrian doesn't seem to enjoy it except a few times when we stroke her on her side while sleeping but I'm wondering what's most common for syrians but also for dwarves since I'm interested in getting a couple in the future.

Re: Do hamsters like to be petted?
I don't think hamsters are really a sit-still-and-be-petted type pet. They're more and hold-and-let-them-escape-and-run-all-over-you type pet... haha.

My syrians Prefer to explore, than be cuddled, but they still like it
my 2 Winter whites, beg for cuddles, and love them
Pip my roborovski hates them :P

Re: Do hamsters like to be petted?
I have one dwarf which likes to be cuddled a little but the other 3 just want to run about like loonys lol. Im getting a LH male syrian soon with the hope that he will be more cuddly but since Ive never owned a syrian I dont know for sure

Re: Do hamsters like to be petted?
Like said above it just depends, my syrian doesn't like to be petted, whereas my dwarf Treo would sit and have a massage for hours

Re: Do hamsters like to be petted?
Thanks for your answers! I assume dwarves are more prone to like snuggling because of their social nature, would you agree with that?

It honestly just depends
A lot of Dwarves can be nippy because of bad breeding not being handled in pet shops

I still think it depends, like i said only 1 of 4 of my dwarfies actually cuddle and even then its only for a minute of two. One of my WWs hates people and recently developed a personality disorder similar to schizophrenia in humans so that sometimes she is ok and sometimes she is savage but never ever cuddly and as for my Robos they are petrified of people, they absolutely adore cuddles but only from each other. Ive never been able to cuddle either of them.
Its more a case of 'lucky draw' rather than breed

Re: Do hamsters like to be petted?
Cooper my Syrian has earned himself the nickname Sloth. He's so laid back, he just sits on my shoulder or lap and waits to be stroked. He especially loves his neck and back being scratched.
Snickers was more of a run all over you hamster, if you stroked her she would stay still though.
The dwarfies try to avoid contact with me but tolerate handling.
