Not using wheel?
Although I understand that hamsters are nocturnal, I usually go to bed around 11 o' clock. However, Titania is usually always sleeping or digging, never using her DIY 8 inch wheel. I added wooden dowels onto it to encourage her to run on it in case she didn't have enough grip, but still she never uses it. And the wheel will turn, continuing to swing a second after I spin it (but not much longer). I know some hamsters don't like using wheels, but Titania doesn't seem to be like that. When she first arrived she attempted to run on the wheel, but without the dowels yet added she was unable to.
Help?
(Titania also tends to sleep underneath the wheel, could this be it?)

Re: Not using wheel?
You haven't had her too long so I wouldn't worry about it. She's likely still settling in and will become more active as she grows more comfortable in her cage. Some hamsters don't like wheels all that much while others can't get enough. As long as you're sure the wheel is large enough, turns fine, and she appears healthy, don't worry over it

Re: Not using wheel?
She might just not recognize it as a wheel.Try actually putting her on the wheel if you can safely handle her,if not get storebought wheel and try that instead. The design is very unique(being a DIY wheel it obviously won't be like a storebought wheel of course!),which could make it confusing to her.The wood parts could also feel very strange and she might not like that either.
Something like a 9 inch Silent Runner or an 8.5 inch Comfort Wheel(highly suggested to avoid, they're ridiculously noisy and a last resort only)may work better for her than a DIY wheel.

Re: Not using wheel?
I've tried putting her on the wheel, but she just gives me a confused look before walking off.
She used a meshed wheel at the pet store (dangerous, I know, part of the reason why I wanted to get her out of there as soon as possible). However, if I remember properly she wasn't using the wheel when I got her, so maybe she just doesn't enjoy wheels.

Re: Not using wheel?
It sounds as though the wheel may not be spinning freely enough if it stops that quickly when you spin it with your finger, I would try putting another wheel in & see how she reacts to that.

Re: Not using wheel?
I'd recommend the Silent Runner, comes in 9 in and 12 in
Those are my favorite, my Syrian is on the smaller side so the 9 in works great!

Re: Not using wheel?
I have a small 6.5 inch Kaytee wheel, and I think I know how to attach it to the cage. Would this work for the time being? It spins quite easily, but I heard that WWs will grow out of them quickly

Re: Not using wheel?
If that's the silent spinner wheel then 6.5" is fine for a Russian.

Re: Not using wheel?
The company that makes these wheel has been putting out defective wheels. To test try to spin the wheel with your fingers and if it keeps on spinning and spinning then you have a good wheel. If the wheel stops after 3-4 spins then I wouldn't use it. They are good wheels, if they spin right.

Re: Not using wheel?
I don't think it's a Silent Spinner. It looks like a purple Comfort Wheel, but as far as I know there isn't a 6.5 inch size.
