Default Long Lie Ins?

Ok, so Fudge it turns out sleeps *very* late. I mean late enough that it could actually cause a problem, I know some hamsters do but Fudge doesn't surface before 10, last night it was half 10 and she's yet to wake today. I'm concerned because she's not tame but we can't stay up this late to handle her as we both need to be up at 7 in the morning. The first thing she does when she gets up is eat and drink so I don't want to think about handling her until at least 15 minutes after she's woken up. I saw it mentioned in Hamsterlodaedia that you could change their sleeping patterns but that it was difficult, has anyone here done this before? I'd really rather not but I don't really see much of an option as if she sleeps this long every night she just won't be able to get the attention she deserves... I know some peoples hammys on here might not wake up until after this time but it suits their lifestyle better than it does ours

Its normal, some hamsters get out after midnight, or wait till all lights are out... they dont care we have to get up!
If she is already tame, try ruffling the bedding a little and talking, making some gentle noise in the cage - and when she shows her face outside her house, stick a sunflower seed or some small treat in her mouth Then try to lure her out with a promise of a next one. Do this till every night she will go out to your hand just to get some food! It works with my hamster usually

Default Re: Long Lie Ins?

half ten or even eleven is very normal for my lot!
I also get up at 7 sometimes 6:30 in the morning, but i am very much a night person and i think i'm just used to it.

Its is perfectly possible to alter the sleeping patterens of hamsters, but it has to be gradual.
Treo used to never get up in the evening and now he gets up every evening. He got used to me always waking him up to give him a quick checkover and maybe a treat and now has started to get up at that time.
Porridge i leave pretty much to do his own thing, he normally wakes up whenever he hears me though.
And Bacardi is new so he is only just getting used to the time i like to get them out.

Sorry waffling a bit, but i would just try persuading her out of bed a bit early each day and hopefully she should start to get up earlier.
