I'm sorry. It's not syrian dwarf. I kind of confused them because of stress or something. Both of them are dwarf hamsters.

If you have a male and a female you cannot keep them together as they will just end up breeding. You will be over run with baby hamsters which could have health issues and the mother will become run down with back to back litters.
They DO NOT need friends at all. They do just fine on their own and you should separate and keep them singly.
With older hammies it is not that easy to introduce a cage mate and you really cannot risk breeding and you having to home or keep endless babies so please just separate. If you cannot keep two cages then you should return the new hamster to the store where hopefully it will find a good home while still young.

Even if they are the same kind keeping different genders together is a bad idea. They won't just breed once and that's it, they'll keep breeding and they will do it *often* you can't keep different genders together for all of their lives as you will be overrun in no time with babies!

Thanks for the advice everyone but my question is why does the female dwarf suddenly become the "owner" of the place. In most threads, as i've mentioned above, females won't be aggressive as long as the place is the male's.. Please read my original post and just change the syrian part into dwarf.

It`s my understanding that females are always the more tempramental of the species anyway and this is what you are seeing. If your male is being bullied and is visibly losing weight, you should abandon your attempts of breeding and keep them apart as single pets.

Why do you wish to breed hamsters anyway? There are too many in rescues around the country as it is and as other members have said already, pet shop hamsters or hamsters bred from unknown sources could just be breeding unhealthy hamsters and passing that on to others. Take a look on some website free-ads and you`ll see what I mean. Breeding any animal is a responsibility to that animals welfare and life. You are already seeing what it can do mentally to them just living together, so my advice would be, keep them as single pets.

Females do tend to be more territorial, well in syrian definitly but i guess in dwarfs its similar. Maybe you just have a very territorial one? Out of my 2 robos one tends to be like boss but isn't territorial...
Some just like more space i guess

I agree with racing hamster here . . .

Sometimes matings do not work - it happens - the female doesnt like the male or visa versa, and they end up fighting and injuring and killing each other. Just because they are male and female of the smae species does not mean that they are going to get along and mate. This is why research is so so important and matings must be carried out very carefully indeed. It is NOT just case of sticking two hamsters togther and hoping - there is much more to it than that.

If you want to contine with your plans to breed please find a NHC registerd breeder near you and ask for some tips and advice, also get your self a good, well bred female and male, whose histories are know, then you will be significantly limiting the risk of propblems with the litter - but obvoiusly not removing all risk completely.

Oh. i missed the breeding bit on the first post...
But yeah i'd say, yeah, breeding pet shop hams is pretty risky with genetics and all and if you go to one petshop then the chances are they could be related which isn't good in breeding...
You could end up with deformed babies and whatnot i was nervous with mango and mimi breeding although i knew their history and all so i guess with petshpo ones it would be worse :L
Anyway goodluck if you want to do the breeding...

My dwarf sandy was not...more dominant than her brother? (It was a case of mistaken gender, rather than intentional) but she was more confident...I think if things had turned aggressive she would have been the one bullying him.
Also, female dwarves are often bigger than the males,

Or maybe she's actually a boy...wouldn't be the first time a pet shop got it wrong
