Default Scared she'll bite!

We have a Syrian (Whoopi ) and the pet store told us that Syrians are less likely to bite, and although she's massively laid back and hasn't nipped anything as of yet (touch wood) I so far have picked her up with a glove on and stroked her with a bare hand but i'm scared she'll bite me as I used to have a russian dwarf and she was an absolute nightmare to pick up!!!! Just want some tips

Really the best thing to do is get her used to your voice and smell, talk to her lots and give her treats from you (ungloved) hand and she should get used to you and not see you as a threat

Mine needs you to take it very slow, once you've done what Podling suggested, try getting her used to having your hand in her cage-lie your hand palm up on the base of the cage, my hamster occasionally has a nibble, but not a bite, it doesn't hurt..you just need to be confident. Try not to react to the nibble, and if she walks onto your hand slowly lift her a little bit, and put her back down this will get her used to being lifted up, I know that it feels like you're taking a step back from already picking her up, but hamsters are used to arial predators...so going in there too fast could scare her.

I hope things work out ok for you..
and the food bribes really do work well
