Default Fuzee Fi's habits :(

I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. Fuzee Fi is a chewer, mainly of plastic! She has a bit of a go at the bars but her main ambition in life is to chew her way out of the cage, after destroying all of its contents. She mainly chews the plastic connectors for the tunnels etc, which I have now removed. She turfs her food bowl out as soon as you put it in, almost in a the same way that turtle digs a hole in sand for its eggs, and after emptying it, turns it upside down and chews the bottom. I am thinking of getting her a heavier stone type of bowl.....

Is her chewing plastic going to cause health problems. She does have wood chews in her cage but does n't seem interested in them :-(

Her other habit is weeing on her wooden things in her cage. She has wood chews and one of those stick things that you can bend into shapes but she just wee's all over it. How can I deter her from doing this - or should I take it all out..... it doesn't leave her much to "play" with though.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

So you have a little vandal on your hands Some hamsters are just set on chewing everything and anything. Why not give her disposable items that are no problem if she trashes them. Try egg boxes, stiff card food boxes and if you can get a nice branch from a fruit tree like apple or pear she might try that. All ours have the little heavy stoneware bowls and no one has chewed them yet. Is her wheel big enough for her? Sometimes they outgrow them and so spent timing trashing the cage instead of running. We also have some heavy duty 3in pipe that plumbers use for sinks and stuff. If you buy the stuff with bends and T shapes they love to use them as tunnels and they are much stronger than the plastic used in cages. B&Q stock them. Well washed, large smooth beach pebbles are good for them to scramble on and keep the nails sanded down too.
