Can they know their name?

I suppose they can't be the smartest animal in the world but I've noticed if I'm standing next to Snowy's cage and talking away to the gerbils or whatever he stays fast asleep but as soon as I say 'Snowy' he wakes up right away and looks at me asif 'Please can I come out?'. Of course I give in and give him a cuddle

The Cloud completely ignored me when I was calling Jam, as soon as I started saying The Cloud, The Cloud, he looked up and started hopping about.

I would say they can indeed know their names!

i think its the way you say it also, cos if i say Peanut..... he doesnt respond but if i say peanutty or sing his song... which goes.. peanuttacle peanuttacle he's got a furry buttacle.. he will look and sit by the cage door... i think i'm too weird.

Snickers will always run to the cage door when I call her and then she'll run around the cage until I get her out.

I think Hamster know they name - all mine come running to the door of their cage when u say their name

Of course they do. Even Horace I've only had for 8 days already comes out his house to the front of the cage when I say his name. Huxley too.
Pip only seems to respond to Pippy Pip. lol

Little Mo definitely knew her name, if I called it from a distance she'd pop up on her hind legs, then go running around the cage and then pop up somewhere else.

Daisy does too - again if I call her name she'll come running up to her ledge and look out for me. I sing to her too - the 'Bicycle made for two' song She loves it!

Most of the guinea pigs and one of the gerbils respond to their name too. Just really cute the way he wakes up and wants out his cage. Like a mini human

I don't think they know its there "name" as such, but when we make the sound they know that means them.

I say Joe, Jan, Mandy & they all come to there "name" the sound of Joe, Jan, Mandy
