I agree with silver, I think it's the sound, I usually talk in a 'baby voice' and they all come out, but when I speak normally they dont.

yes, it is obviously to the tone of voice when saying the name, and the syllables etc. thats how all animals recognise their name I think as they recognise the way it sounds when you say the word

my hamster come out when i call then but tigerlilly wont come out for my sister if she calls her tigerlilly but when my sister calls her tigerwilly she come running lol

Aizen ignores me when I call him "Aizen" but mainly because I've always called him "Ai" for short I should've just called him "Ai" it's Japanese for love. But yea Luppi knew his name as well.

Chewy certainly knows when he is being called. He will run towards you, or away, depending on what might be about to happen haha. My last hamster certainly seemed to know her name - I would whisper it and she would spring out of her nest. Madness. It's something I hope crops up in one of my books, or my unit on companion animals x

yes they can! when i talk to 'mr nibbles' or 'niblets' or 'nuggets' LOL he always toddles over to me...of course, he has MANY names and knows them all. they're so smart yeah, i think they know taffy wakes up, stands up and sniffs then trys to get out to me if she hears her name...and ive had her a very short time.
