Wow Alberto

You really have some great clear pictures!! I love the set up you have for your hams as well. Do you have any picture of the WW in their white coats?

thank you candacebell...:-)

..no I haven't any picture of WW in winter coat, because both male and female didn't turn white last winter (the female for a while, seemed to start becoming paler, but at the end she didn't...)

...you can see some sapphire among the babies, in all the litters till now (4)there was at least one (the maximum was 3 on 7)

...the babies seem to be subject to color coat changing in the first 3 weeks...a sapphire (apparently) turned to normal during the 3rd week, strange, isn't it?

bye bye

Wow they are so clear :!: You have a great camera and an absolutely gorgeous bunch of Winter White Russian Dwarf Hamsters. Have you kept them for long?

Do you mind if I use the one with the WW's crammed in the house as an avatar image for people to use?

That is a great picture!

These will hopefully help those who am are not sure which subspecies of Russian Dwarf they have - as you can all hopefuly see they are quite different in appearance (size, shape and colour) and I have also found demenour.

I usually keep the litter for 5-6 weeks, when they have almost reached the size of their mother...it's sad after that time to give them all to the pet shop...even posting messages in various forum saying "dwarf babies WW russian hamster available" haven't produced any result to date...

I hope these pictures will help those confused by the differences between Normal Campbell's and Normal Winter White Russian Dwarf Hamsters

You can really see the different head shape in some of those. In the third one down it looks like the head is too big for the body, must be a funny angle!

I often see "bullet shape body" as a description for WWs, but haven't been able to translate that when actually looking at WWs.

At the show last weekend I was testing myself on identifiying WWs vs Campbells - working out what each ham was before looking at the classes it was entered in, which gave it away. I didn't do too badly - it's quite difficult though!

Third picture is them in their plastic bin digging box - everything is covered in sand and they stuffed the potty house with their litter layer mixture and then guarded it like a little den - but it's their space so who am I to judge :?

Practice and looking from all angles, including upside down (them not me  ), helped me in the beginning. Telling a hybrid is even harder, especially if just using photographs... I am much more of a hands-on person.

In this photo, I know the top one is normal and the right one sapphire, what about the one in the food bowl? Is that just a pale normal?

Hi Emma it is also Normal - just the way the light is hitting it making it look a little different.
