Hello :D

I am gerbil01 or "Hannah" from the popular gerbil forum. I breed gerbils. I only have one breeding pair at a time though and provide good quality gerbils to good homes. I bought my first hammie Freckles a few days ago

From what people tell me she isn't a dalamation (like the sign at PetSmart said) but a black dominant spot syrian.

I know she needs a bigger wheel and cage. I got her a slightly bigger weel I had as you can see from the last picture. Ive been told her cage is a bit small. So I guess I need to make another thread on what the best kind of cage is. Expect alot of beginner's questons from me

Welcome to you and your very cute little hammie. She is adorable. Hammies always like as big a cage as possible but if you give her plenty out time your cage will be fine till you sort something out. You should stick with a solid wheel as the feet can get trapped. The medium silent spinner is OK for most average sized hams we find.

Welcome Hannah! What gerbil forum did you come from? was it The Mongolian Gerbil Website? Im a member on that forum. I use to breed gerbils. I did it when I was in elementary school and then recently ..maybe last year I bred my Burmese female and Siamese male. It was lots of fun and I just love baby gerbils. But finding them homes was difficult...mainly because I feel nobody other then myself can give them the best home lol  The first round of pups my female had was eight! More then I was expecting! I love gerbs, but I think id like to try my hand at breeding dwarf hamsters some day. I still currently own 6 gerbils though.

Freckles is so adorable! Shes so cute, and you took such cute pics of her I had to show my hubby! Bah silly pet stores though! They will call a hamster anything to get some extra money out of it. I have yet to see a sign for a dalmatian hamster, but I wouldnᅵt be surprised if I did! Teddy bear hams, fancy hams, black bear hams, panda hams..

Soufflᅵ is right.. more actual floor space is better then a level cage. Especially for a Syrian ham. I find that most store bought cages for hamsters are just to small for the Syrian type. Thatᅵs just my personal feelings. I had a silent spinner for my Syrian but it eventually broke under his weight and constant usage. You might want to look into a larger solid wheel, I found the SS wasnt wide enough and was tricky to run on for my poor ham. Anyway.. if you have any questions feel free to ask..

Oh, and look into bin cages if you havenᅵt already, they make great cages and are very affordable.

Lovly Avatar btw :)

I was told from a thread I made there about bin cages. Does anyone have a link to info about them? It would really help

Yes thats the forum to the The Mongolian Gerbil Website ( http://www.petermaas.nl/gerbils/english.htm )

Hamster Central has two articles about bin cages, you can find them here http://www.hamstercentral.com/generalarticles.php Bin cages for hamsters are pretty simple, however if you ever make them for gerbils there are special things to consider. I can help you with that. But for hams, its pretty straight forward. please post any questions! :)
