I have decided I'd like to rescue a syrian hamster but now having made the decision it doesn't appear to be as easy as it sounds.

Am planning on giving RSPCA at Great Ayton a ring after the bank holiday to enquire there but does any one have any other ideas where to try in the North Yorkshire /Teesside area.

I've ordered a cage from Ebay today to accomodate said mystery hamster, and don't want it standing empty too long. Am up at St Andrews visiting family fairly regularly through the year so may end up knocking on Babyboos door if all else fails :D

I don't know any specific places, but it might be worth contacting the Hamster Society http://www.hamsoc.org.uk to see if they know anywhere or if any of their members take on rescues. Maybe also try posting on the RAWA forum http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php? ... =rawaboard (http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/index.php?sid=8e848381adffdf2f0ea46e1b7c8da0f5&mforum=rawaboard) to see if anyone can suggest a rescue in your area, they are currently compiling a national list so somene might have the information somewhere!!

You could also have a look on http://pet-rescue.org.uk/forums/index.php?act=idx maybe

Good luck! And good on you for waiting & looking for a rescue hammy :)

Progress has been made :D I contacted towyvale who put me in touch with someone who put me in touch with the Hull Animal Welfare Trust. I want a female though and all they have available immediately is one male as the females are all at risk of being pregnant. I'll be back in touch tomorrow to discuss further, don't mind waiting for a little lady. I already have a female and wouldn't want a male to be caused any frustration by sharing a room with her, or any temptation for my kids to make babies of their own!!!!

Great news :) I hope you have a new little girl home with you in the not too distant future!
