No one seems to have reviewed my cage so I thought I'd have a go. Opinions and comments welcome.

This cage can be found at P@H, as well as the internet. Because of the small bar spacing it is marketed at Dwarf Hammies and Mice and I found that P@H would only let me take this cage or one of their tank style cages to house Teddy a Russian Dwarf.

The cage is quite small in my opinion but big enough for a single dwarf hammy. Probably a little small and bland for a pair of Robos if they have high activity levels (never owned a Robo so would need a second opinion there). Too small I would think for a Syrian.

The second level is very low, so a Syrian would struggle to get under there. I also find the second level a bit too low as Teddy doesn't even venture under the grill, he just stays in the open bit. If I wanted to add alot of bedding I think it would obstruct him getting under the second level.

The wheel is small and cheap. It is fine for a single dwarf like mine although it needed moving down as it was positioned too high and it was really squeaky untill my hubby added some WD40 to it.

The water bottle is not great but works fine. It was leaky for the first few mins but if you use the wire instead of the plastic bottle holder, you should be OK.

While this is designed for small hammies, the bar spacing on the second level has not been well thought out as Teddy would often loose a leg or a foot through one of the gaps as he was walking, it looked quite uncomfortable. So you'd need to cover this with something, which can make the cage look more unsightly depending on what you use.

There is only one door at the top, which is fine because you can get to everything in the cage through it, however Teddy cannot be coaxed and walk out himself, he always needs lifting.

Because of the low level, I find space for toys an issue. The wheel and bed take up the main part of the open area, so other toys have to go on the level or under it, of which can be difficult. I am contemplating hanging some toys down or adding some tubing to make use of air space and add more excitement.

So, all in all ... a good serviceable cage for one single dwarf ...

The Mickey Max is the first cage we bought. As the number of our dwarf hamsters grow, we bought a Ferplast wire cage and from then on we went down the road of buying clear plastic boxes for our new additions. Why?

Apart from saving money, the main reason is that we find that hamsters living in bin cages are so much easier(quicker) to tame.

Mickey Max may be a fairly well-built rodent cage but it has 2 major shortcomings. The 2nd floor is actually a wire platform, rendering my hamsters uncomfortable when walking on it. The cage door is super small, this can discourage/hinder the taming process of newly-acquired pets.

Yes, I agree. It is some months on and I have some birthday money and am thinking about upgrading to a zz1 from a pet shop down the road.

Little Teddy has been a great hammy and deserves a little something in return I think. I'm just in the process of making sure that a zz1 is the right decision first. :D

The Mickey Max is a fine starter cage I think. Its annoying P@H made us buy it when there are other options out there. If we hadn't have bought this cage the lady said she wouldn't be happy to let us take Teddy so we did we had to do after falling in love with the little guy :???:
