I have been looking everywhere for Chinchilla sand for a sand bath for Mimosa but I can only see the finer Chinchilla Dust.

Can anyone suggest an online supplier of the sand please?

Thank you! :D

Here's one http://thepetexpress.co.uk/petshop/prod ... 4e4c01a2f0 (http://thepetexpress.co.uk/petshop/product_info.php/cPath/56_7938_6121/products_id/11938?osCsid=3e113e78c4e033dfa6779d4e4c01a2f0)

I just googled for "Charlie Chinchilla" sand which is the type I use - it's great as it comes in a plastic milk bottle type container, so doesn't spill everywhere when you open the packet.

What do you put the sand in? I am looking for something that Mimosa can get in and out of easily but I don't want it to get scattered out the cage as it is in my wee boy's room.

Phoebe doesn't have any - I have given it to her once and she took very little notice of it. However with her new more spacious cage I may try again!!!

My pair of robos have a normal pasta sauce jar, the singleton boy robos have pesto jars (one-robo sized!!!). I think for a syrian I'd try a large jar, maybe like a big coffee one or something. Basically big enough for her to get inside totally, turn around and come out again.

We put ours in a hammy potty, the type with the hood lids over them. They do kick some on to the floor but it never comes over the edge of the cage. The do use it as a toilet once they have had a good roll. We use the charlie chinchilla in the milk bottle like Emma's and have no trouble getting it in the local pet stores. It does come in bags too. Postage might be a bit expensive to buy online,

I use the milk bottle stylie Charle Chinchilla too, and either large open dishes or potties (Ferplast Koky 4635) with lids for my guys. Some Syrians get potty balls too depending what I have to hand each day.

Oh that potty is so cute!! I've never seen one before that actually looked big enough for a proper-sized Syrian.

Do they (Syrians) use it as a loo or a sandbath (or a mixture)? Phoebe already has a litter tray, a SuperPet "Little John" corner litter tray, which I put Biocatolet in and she uses without fail. Nice clean little girl I have :)

Although she does sometimes store food in there too!

The Syrians use their potty as a bath when newly cleaned but primarily as a toilet. The dwarf hamsters use theirs more as both.

Here are some links to some previous discussions on Hamster Central regarding potties/sand baths.

That picture is the potty we use Babyboos and ours use it as you say as a bath when clean then as a loo. It is plenty big enough for a large Bailey!

Do you use your little riddler thing? I tend to change mine every one to two days so never bother. One really good thing with these potties is they do keep a lot of the soiled sand inside them, rather than scattering all over the enclosure litter layer.
