I'm currently building a bin cage! However on what I have so far, there is a millimeter of duct tape on the hamster side around the windows on the side. Is there a safe way to cover this without putting the mesh on the inside?

Thank you in advance!

I would just try and find a way to remove the tape before even putting a hamster in the bin cage.It isn't worth the serious risk,as duct tape would cause very bad health problems including potential blockages if ingested not to mention potential toxic chemical exposure :(

I have another question. The duct tape is there to cover an uneven edge I couldnt manage to sand down. Is there something safer I could to cover this sharp edge?

There isn't really anything safe I can think of, can you get some coarser sand paper & have another go or file it down?

Okay. I'll do my best! I'll update with what I did. :)

You also could try to melt it by burning it, directly or by heating something metallic and applying the metal to the plastic.

If you decide to burn it, be cautious of the fumes as they're noxious! Burning plastic is known to release carcinogenic compounds so for your safety, make sure not to inhale too much and to take proper safety precautions. Sanding it down should work well. What grit sandpaper are you using? It can take quite a bit of sanding for something to reach optimal smoothness :)
