Syrian Hamster - Scotland/Aberdeenshire Area?

Hi All! I apologise as I know this topic has been done before but in the hopes that things might have recently changed I thought I'd give it a shot.

Does anyone know of any syrian hamster breeders in the Aberdeenshire area or even Scotland? I have tried and failed to find any so appriciate it if anyone knows anything.

There's a 3 month old Syrian on gumtree - in Lossiemouth - is that too far from you?

Babyboos hamstery in Dundee. They look they are still breeding as there's a gumtree ad for Syrians who were ready to go last month.

Maybe a bit closer than Lossiemouth and a breeder, but sounds like her hammies went in December. Might be worth contacting her to see if she has any more litters due.

Thanks Serendipity! I did come across Babyboos a while ago and have messaged via email and the ad site I saw them on but no response and I don't want to keeping bugging her, I am assuming that she doesn't have anymore at this stage. I'll just have to see what comes of it.

I did also email Querceti Hamstrey and Julie Hill (that's the Glasgow one you mentioned Serendipity - thanks :p) which are all listed on the Northern Hamster Club list of breeders but no response as yet. I think they are probably no longer actively breeding though just by looking at sites and what info there is on the internet. After searching I just get the impression there is just not much happening hamster wise in Scotland and that whatever little used to be around previously has ground to a halt. It doesn't look like any hamster shows are ever held here either.

I did check out the Lossiemouth ad you mentioned too but I think it's too far, or not really too far but too lengthy and awkward to get to by public transport if that makes sense. Edinburgh would still be manageable because I can get there directly by train and it's only 2.5 hours. I just have to keep trying and cross my fingers I get something!

Julie is still active but I don't think the others are at the moment certainly. It isn't really the time of year for breeding much to be honest.
There are no shows in Scotland except one 'pet show' in Turrif later in the year.
There is an ex club member in Fife who does still breed some nice hammies but I don't think she has anything just now either.

I suppose it could be worth asking the Lossiemouth people to deliver the hammy! They can only say know. I know there's a bit RAF base there and RAF types think nothing of jumping in a car for a venture somewhere. On the other hand they may not be RAF and local Scottish people from the area. Anyway - it might be worth suggesting it if you offered to pay the petrol or something. Unless you particularly want a breeder ham.

Thanks for the heads up Cypher! I've emailed them so if any happen to have litters or upcoming hopefully they'll get in touch. You said that it's not the right time of year for litters, which tend to be the months where most litters get born? Also the pet show in Turrif sounds fun but I can't find any info for the show this year, I'll have to keep an eye out :)

I am not absolutely set on a breeder ham, mostly I just want a healthy well handled hamster. Unfortunatly due to the quality of the one local pet shop that does sell hamsters I'm not keen on buying from them and any that are advertised on Gumtree or similar are going to have very likely come from the same place. I'm not ruling it out but I want to try other options first.

Just thinking there could be a fair few private adverts for young hamsters at this time when people have got them for Christmas and changed their minds but also know what you mean about not wanting to get one from a not so good pet shop.

The winter months tends to be a bit slower for breeding and then things usually start to pick up again in the spring.

I'm going to try not to stress too much about it, I have to wait until the house move in February is done anyway, I'll take another look at my options then. Just feeling really broody for a ham I guess!

Aw - I guessed that. Maybe something will turn up just at the right time. It sounds like you need to go on holiday in the Spring and come back with a hammy :-)
