We had to have our little guy (a two year old Syrian called d'Artagnan) put to sleep about a month ago. He was my first pet as an adult, and the first one I really bonded with. He was my husband's first pet. We got a new Syrian today (a little girl called Éowyn), and she's lovely, but having her is making me really miss d'Artagnan, and feel bad for trying to replace him. Which we're not doing - he is irreplaceable. We're just trying to fill the hamster-shaped hole in our lives since he left us. As you'll see in the picture, he was perfect. I'm surprised that he made such a big impact on our lives in his short time with us, but he was so great - feisty and lively and sweet - and I still sometimes cry when I think of him (like now). Thank you in advance for understanding that he was not 'just a hamster'.

My condolences for your loss. They really have a huge impact on our lives and when they pass away they leave a huge hole in our hearts. Every hamster is different in their own ways.
So glad you got another ham.

I'm so sorry for your loss Ahateumezalea, d'Artagnan was a lovely little man, it's always hard losing a much loved hamster & I think our first always has a special place in our hearts but you gave him a good life full of love & I'm sure he can't have wanted for more.
Don't feel bad about having brought another ham home, we never replace the ones that go on to the bridge, they live forever in our hearts & our hearts just grow bigger with more love for those that come after.
I hope Eowyn is a comfort to you, let her help you cherish memories of the good times with d'Artagnan.

Run free & play well at the bridge d'Artagnan.

My sympathy goes out to you, our furry little companions really are special, and so many people can't seem to comprehend the fact that these creatures aren't "just hamsters". They're family to us and it's heartbreaking to lose family. I'm so sorry for your loss and you should know that you shouldn't feel bad for getting a new little one at all! It's tough being hamster-less and having another little one to help you through the grieving process makes it just a little easier. I wish you and your little one many happy years with one another.

I'm sorry for your loss. Such a lovely picture of him. I understand what you mean about getting a new ham after the loss of another. I got Rupert 9 months after I lost Lexi and I didn't realize that I expected him to be like her until I got him and realized how different they are. I do love his personality and have enjoyed having him here and I feel bad sometimes because I had high expectation of him. I have started to accepted that he is him own little man. I hope your new ham brings you happiness and you can enjoy your time with her xx
