Hello,

Because of this forum I decided I wanted to make a big 3 leveled popsicle house for my rats, just for outside the cage. They don't really chew things but I still want to be sure I used at least non-toxic hot glue. I've searched in every craft for here but none packaging said it was non-toxic.

So on ebay I found some non-toxic glue sticks and ordered them. When I received it, the sticks did not have a packaging and still didn't no if they are really non-toxic. I e-mailed the seller about it so I am placing it here:

Hello,

I just received these Glue sticks, but the product it self had no packaging at all. So I could not see on the packaging if this is really non-toxic glue sticks. I want to use these sticks to glue houses for my rats, as long these are really non toxic it will be fine but if they are not my hamsters could easily die from it.

So can you please comfirm that these sticks are indeed non-toxic?

Regards,
Heleen.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer but all I wanted to know if these glue sticks are really non-toxic, because it has no packaging that says so.
So please just answer this question:
Are these glue stick NON-TOXIC??

I really just want an answer like 'NO ' or 'YES', so I know I can use it for my rat cage.

Regards,
Heleen.

SELLER:
sorry to hear that
how about we resend new one to you as compensation ?
or do you have better idear ?'

Sorry for the long post, but the seller kind of avoids my question and does not answer it at all..

Does someone know if these are really non-toxic? I don't know where else to get them. I live in the Netherlands and I couldn't really find any webshops that sells it.

This is the one I've ordered: New 20pcs 7mmx190mm Adhesive Glue Sticks for Glue Gun Art Repair Non Toxic | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/161788072547?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)

Any info or tips are welcome. :) Also if there is any other strong glue I could use please let me know.
Thanks~

I see you are in the Netherlands. I was recommended to use Ponal Wood Glue (used in Germany) for strong glue. It doesn't smell of anything and glues things really tight! Although it might be a bit of an overkill if it's just for popsicle sticks. I used it to glue legs onto a house, so it had to carry a bit of weight. As long as there is no residue showing it's fine when it's dry.

This one is the one that is generally recommended as a non toxic all purpose glue

Ahh thanks! I bought the Elmers glue and I am going to try that one first, but my rats weigh about 450 each so it is probably not strong enough but I will see. Hoping it will turn out fine. :P

Dutchie here (yay!). I'm pretty sure most children's glue are safe too, if you can find those, but I'm honestly not entirely sure. Maybe look around in a couple of DIY/crafts stores if you have them? Maybe even some hardware stores sell some pet-safe/non-toxic glues?

I couldn't find any, so I ordered the Elmers glue online. But the shipping will take a long time. :X

When I was little, the teachers and my Mom also would make a paste from plain white flour and water. Would that be suitable? I've been wondering that, as I wished to craft my Ham some Popsicle stick furniture.
I remember we used to eat the glue when we were young.

Elmer's Glue-All is what I use to build things from craft sticks (aka popsicle sticks) .. it's non toxic, water soluble, and is just an extra strong version of regular elmer's school glue. it's great for wood. :D

Have you just looked at regular hot glue sticks? We just buy the run of he mill hot glue sticks and they have a little label that says non toxic

I've heard its best to go with water soluble glue, since if the hamster ingests any, it will break up and digest easily and not cause harm. I don't think hot glue would break up easily. Though, most hamsters don't seem to be big on chewing wood, all the one's I've seen or read about aren't into wood chews. My toby isn't either, but he loves whimzee chews. I've noticed with my hamsters, they will chew wood for the first month or two I have them, then want nothing to do with it. strange. ha ha

I definitely think there's something suspicious about that seller. Therefore, I wouldn't use those hot glue sticks for any animal.

PVA glue is also good for lollystick craft. It's what I use! Just make sure it says non-toxic.

Good luck with your projects :)!

Elmer's glue is available in a lot of places, even outside the US.It is a very good option if it is available, and they do openly state that they do not use animal products in their glues on their website where a lot of companies wouldn't say anything!
